Electronic Typewriters

Electronic typewriters

In a day and age where computers seem to be the norm, some people still cling to and love their electronic typewriters. They are simple to use, require only basic maintenance and can be replaced for a modest amount if they are non-repairable. The downside is that most lack adequate word processing programs but if you are willing to spend a little more you can get a word processor instead of an electronic typewriter. Some of the more advanced ones have on screen LCD windows that allow you to type a present amount of text then have it printed to the page. This allows for proof-reading, spacing and the addition of graphics at a later time.

There are some costs involved with owning an electronic typewriter. You have to buy paper, print cartridges and after a few years a new print wheel. Most electronic typewriters are well made and shouldn't require any major repairs and you can find some good deals on gentle used models. When compared to the price of a computer, investing in an electric typewriter is most cost effective.

The advanced electric typewriters have the ability to use special characters, adapt to using print wheels for foreign lettering and larger fonts. Granted, these are all things that can easily be done with the click of a mouse using a computer but some people feel intimidated by them. The basic things you will want from an electronic typewriter is affordable ink cartridges, ability to make corrections, quiet keys and a removable power cord. Why is that important If it frays or stops working you can buy a replacement cord rather than having to take it to a repair shop and having them replace it.

Used and refurbished electronic typewriters are a big market these days. Schools, libraries and business centers recognize that not everyone wants to use a computer. Buying a refurbished unit is rarely risky but it is best to try it out before the purchase to make sure everything works to your satisfaction.
